Dear Key Workers

Written in collaboration with children around the world during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020

You sprint, lift and listen

to heartbeats, worries,

and the puff

and gasp

of ventilators.

You inject painkillers

and courage.

You teach history,

hockey

and hope.

You grow

imaginations,

confidence,

brains.

You believe in us,

you care.

You soak, scrub

and sweep

away our fears.

You put out fires

and warm our spirits.

You bring letters,

lifelines,

and love.

You pick, pack, stack,

prepare.

You keep shelves

and bellies full.

You nourish us.

You share.

You govern, guide, inform,

protect,

search, rescue, build,

arrest.

You comfort.

You mend.

You keep our streets clean,

and our minds tidy.

No matter what, you’re there.

Thank you.
